Introduction to an action learning programme to develop MCH Health Inequalities Champions

Brief Overview:
This action learning programme will support the creation of MCH Health Inequalities change champions.  This introductory session to the year long programme is aimed at ensuring you understand what is involved in the action learning programme before self selecting/ being selected for the programme.  The programme aims to build the capacity and capability of health inequalities for clinical leaders and heads of service and will cover leading change and public health skills development.  The action learning set will consist of between 8 and 12 people and will use your work agenda and individual issues as a basis for development.

Perinatal Mental Health

One day course

Depression can occur during pregnancy and after childbirth which is known as the perinatal period. One in ten women may have symptoms ranging from feeling low and anxious to severe depression and negative thoughts about the baby. Women with long term mental health problems may benefit from early assessment and co-ordinated care planning in the perinatal period to promote positive mental health.

This course will give an overview of pre and post-natal depression, assessment and identification, treatment and referral pathways and community resources. It is aimed at anyone interested in gaining an awareness in maternal mental health ie multidisciplinary teams, primary and secondary mental health care, social workers, voluntary workers, health visitors, midwives and Surestart workers.
