Self Help Guides for Mental Health

Self Help Guides for Mental Health
This service is currently reviewing its publication and distribution of self help literature. There remains a high level of demand for printed copy in addition to electronic formats. The service will develop a fresh series of guides to cover the most common mental health conditions likely to be identified by doctors. These are expected to be published in sequence from January 2012.

Meanwhile, the service will distribute the following;

  1. Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Trust Self Help Guides
    These have been distributed in large volume in Manchester since 2004 and remain popular. We are, however, planning to stop stocking these in future.

    These guides can be viewed and printed from www.ntw.nhs.uk/pic/selfhelp. Printed copies are also available from this source. Our remaining stock is still available for collection at our offices at Victoria Mill in Miles Platting. The attached order form will indicate what is still available.

    PDF files of translated guides not published by Northumberland are available below, some of which are available as printed copies

5 Areas Booklets
These brief and accessible guides address a range of common problems with key points to help resolve them based in cognitive behavioural (CBT) approaches.

They have proved popular in recent distribution in Manchester. They do not talk about mental health as such and will be useful for a far wider range of people than those who have an identified mental health condition.

We stock nine titles in a series called “Living Life to the Full; Little Books”. A reader may find that more than one title together is useful, depending on the problems they are experiencing.

They may also find it useful to use the Living Life to the Full website, a free interactive CBT based programme to help overcome stress, worry and low mood. www.livinglifetothefull.com

For more information about the full five area range of guides, see www.fiveareas.com
