Manchester City Football Club encouraged its fans to pledge to get healthy as part of the Getting Manchester Moving campaign. Before the home game against Middlesbrough on Sunday October 7th, Blues supporters had the chance to try a range of sports such as football, badminton and tag rugby, while finding out how to lead a more physically active lifestyle. The event was a great success, with around 500 fans signing up to the campaign and pledging to make a difference!
A prize draw was included of a signed football, tickets to a home game and a fruit smoothie maker. Alex Williams, Director of Community Affairs, said, “Being physically active and leading a healthy lifestyle should be a key aim of everyone’s life, therefore Manchester City is delighted to be supporting the Getting Manchester Moving campaign.”
Manchester Community Health Trainers were available on the day to encourage healthy eating by giving away tasty fruit smoothies and general health advice. The Health Trainers scheme sees members of the community provide one to one support to help people take the first steps to becoming more active and eating more healthily.

The proposals that cancer might be preventable, and that food, nutrition, physical activity, and body composition might affect the risk of cancer, were first made before science emerged in its modern form in the 19th and 20th centuries. Throughout recorded history, wise choices of food and drink, and of habitual behaviour, have been recommended to protect against cancer, as well as other diseases, and to improve well-being. |

The Manchester Healthy Schools Policy Pack is designed to enable schools to develop all of the policies which are required in the Manchester Healthy Schools Standard. The policy pack includes policies which schools have a statutory or OFSTED requirement to address e.g. PSHE, anti-bullying, as well as other policies which are required for National Healthy School Status and the Bronze, Silver & Gold award. The Manchester Healthy School Partnership is keen to support schools to develop effective and comprehensive practice in this area. Using this policy pack will save schools time and resources; it will also ensure a common and integrated whole school approach to these subject areas. The policy pack has been designed to be relevant to all schools.
