Supporting Falls Prevention Promotion Work in Manchester

The Project Supports the Older Population as Follows:

Advice and Opportunities for Exercise
  • Making visits to older people in their homes to advise on appropriate exercise programmes.
  • Carrying out assessments to establish a person’s suitability for exercise.
  • Making recommendations for appropriate exercise activities with participants, either in the community, or in the home.
  • Informing GPs of their patient’s exercise programme so that information can be used for practice audits relating to lifestyle advice.
  • Providing assistance to groups in setting up exercise classes for the over-65s.
  • Organising classes across the city.

Training

  • Providing training to deliver seated exercise to a wide range of people involved with the elderly.
  • Delivering exercise ‘taster’ sessions in residential and community settings.

Resources

  • Providing home based exercise resources free of charge for strength and balance training
  • Offering advice leaflets on a wide range of health and safety issues affecting older people.
