Time Please! Preventing and dealing with drunkenness

Time Please! aims to help premises and events create safer drinking environments by preventing and dealing with drunkenness. The one hour refresher session aims to provide managers and their staff with:

  • General awareness of the effects of alcohol and a refresher on your responsibilities under the Licensing Act 2003
  • Practical ideas that can help staff to intervene early and prevent the need to refuse service at a later stage
  • Support for staff to deal with a person who is drunk to support a consistent approach to recognising drunkenness and refusing service across the City

Training is provided for managers and relevant staff and is accompanied by a free retailer pack containing customer signage, pocket checklists for staff, and refusal advice in a tear-off pad. For more details on Time Please! training materials and resources, click here.

We provide multi-agency and bespoke training in alcohol identification and brief advice free of charge to prioritised staff groups in Manchester. Multi-agency training dates for 2011/2012 are available through the service training programme click here.

Alcohol IBA training aims to provide the skills and knowledge required to perform competently against the relevant National Occupational Standard (AH10 Employ techniques to help individuals to adopt sensible drinking behaviour*). It includes:

  • assessment of level of use/risk using simple identification tool (AUDIT-C/AUDIT)
  • simple feedback of lower risk advice and how their drinking relates to that
  • goal setting and some suggested simple techniques and/or helpful materials to promote success
  • options for added support or onward referral, where needed
  • skills practice using a working knowledge of the cycle of change model

* All our training and resources incorporate the most up-to-date risk based terminology used by the Department of Health (i.e. lower risk, increasing risk, higher risk). For more details on alcohol training options, click here, or for the latest alcohol IBA toolkit order form, click here.
