On the day the new Licensing Laws came into force, we launched a safer drinking campaign raising awareness of the consequences of binge drinking. This pro bono was provided by a local PR company who used social marketing techniques to capture the parody of the “drinks promotion”. The resources can be displayed in a variety of non-specialist settings including community pharmacies, GP surgeries, sexual health clinics, police custody suites, magistrates courts, A&E departments, workplaces, and at point of sale (off licences).

In support of the implementation of Models of Care for Alcohol Misusers, this factfile begins this process of developing integrated care pathways from non-specialist settings such as GP surgeries, sexual health clinics, police custody suites, smoking cessation clinics, community mental health teams or from the workplace.

When alcohol becomes a problem it often can affect the whole family and the problems can stay hidden because of the stigma attached to alcohol misuse. We worked with Childline to produce a leaflet with tips and information sources to encourage young people to look after themselves and to seek help.

This campaign continues to be a success since its launch in 2004. Posters involving local young people have been displayed across a wide range of creative settings. MPHDS have been working on a pilot group project in North Manchester to support women who want support to maintain abstinence from alcohol. If this is successful we hope it can be rolled out across the city to enhance service provision for women experiencing alcohol problems. |
